Trace Lawless joins ProNet Group as Senior Fire Investigator

Cincinnati, OH (May 15, 2025)

ProNet Group is pleased to announce that Mr. Trace Lawless, IAAI-CFI, NAFI-CFEI, IAAI-ECT, has joined the firm as Senior Fire Investigator in Cincinnati. Ohio.

Mr. Lawless has forty (40) years of fire service experience overall, including 35 years leading and managing fire and/or explosion investigations in the public and private sectors. Experience includes determining origin and cause of over 2,000 fires pertaining to commercial and residential structures, high rises, vehicles, farm and heavy equipment, and has been the lead investigator in nearly 1,400 of those fires, including over 100 fatal fire investigations. He has extensive training in fire origin and cause determination, arson investigations, complex scene management, evidence collection and management, and both fraud and subrogation investigations. He has testified in court as an expert witness on the origin and cause of fires and explosions in Ohio and Kentucky.

Mr. Lawless is also the Immediate Past President of the International Association of Arson Investigators (IAAI). Additionally with the IAAI, he formerly served as Vice President, a member of the Board of Directors, and Training and Education Chairman.

Prior to joining ProNet, Mr. Lawless served as Fire Investigation Unit Supervisor for Grinnell Mutual Reinsurance Company, where he was responsible for investigations of fires and explosions involving large dollar losses, injuries, and fatalities. He supervised a team of on-staff fire investigators in the field, along with assignments of new losses, file reviews, report reviews and management of losses. Earlier in his career, Mr. Lawless worked in the public sector at the municipal, county, and state levels in Ohio.
