IRVINE, CA (January 10, 2019) - ProNet Group, a leader in forensic engineering and consulting services to the insurance, legal, construction, and corporate risk management industries since 1990, announces that John Kitchens has joined the firm as Senior Fire Investigator.

Mr. Kitchens is a Certified Fire Investigator (IAAI-CFI and CCAI), Certified Fire and Explosion Investigator (NAFI-CFEI) and Certified Vehicle Fire Investigator (NAFI-CVFI) with over 40 years of experience. He has been the lead investigator at more than 4,000 fire scenes. Mr. Kitchens has testified in Superior and Municipal courts as an expert witness on more than 100 occasions regarding fire origin and cause, and has testified as an expert witness regarding fire codes and the application of codes.


Mr. Kitchens was a member of numerous NFPA committees, including the 1031 and 1033 committees, setting the professional standards for fire investigators, inspectors and plan checkers. He has received specialized training in fire origin and cause determination, wildland fire investigation, electrical fire investigation, vehicle fire investigation, evidence collection, interviews and interrogations, and courtroom testimony, meeting the requirements for fire investigator as established in NFPA 1033.

Additionally, Mr. Kitchens’ expertise in fire science includes fire behavior, fire dynamics, fire chemistry, and flammability/combustibility of liquids.

Mr. Kitchens has taught fire investigation and fire prevention classes at community colleges and for the California State Fire Marshal’s office. He has guest lectured on a wide range of fire investigation and fire prevention topics, and has authored numerous articles and pamphlets regarding fire investigation, fire prevention and fire safety issues.
